This beautifully produced catalogue presents a powerful collection of paintings by British Indian artist Reeta Sarkar which draws attention to the plight of widows around the world. First exhibited at the United Nations in New York in a joint exhibition with Yoko Ono to mark the first UN-designated International Widows Day on 23 June 2011. Reeta Sarkar’s 17 canvases are arranged in three themes – South Asia, Africa and Conflict – which highlight different aspects of this “hidden calamity” that directly affects half a billion people.
