Chris Parsons is an ambassador and long-time supporter of the Loomba Foundation. He has raised money for The Loomba Foundation in the past and he is embarking on another gruelling challenge to raise more money for widows and their children.
Chris has set a fundraising target of $450,000 and wants to cycle the entire length of India from Kanyakumari in the South to Srinagar in the North. He will be starting this challenge on Monday 3rd February 2020 and will cycle 4,500km over 45 days.
Widows are poorly treated in many parts of India and in rural locations in particular. They are blamed for the death of their husbands and are seen as bad luck. Some are verbally abused, beaten, raped and thrown out of their marital homes. The Loomba Foundation runs various programmes to help widows and their children lead better lives.
All the money raised by Chris in this instance will go towards helping widows in Jammu and Kashmir. We are going to set up a skills programme initiative so they can start earning an income. Earning an income is an important step in helping these women to become self-sufficient.
