On 6th November 2019 we launched a widow empowerment programme in conjunction with IMS People to help 150 widows in Ahmedabad in India. These widows will be trained in cutting, tailoring and using sewing machines for three to six months at 2 training centres run by the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA). After completing the training, the widows will be employed through an organisation called M.A.D (Making A Difference) to make cotton bags.
This is fantastic news as this will enable the widows to make a living so they can support their children and families. Making cotton bags also coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message to stop or curb the use of single-use plastics as stated during Gandhi’s 150th birthday celebration. Therefore, we’re pleased that with the assistance of our partners we are changing the lives of widows while also helping the environment.
This empowerment project was made possible (thank you!) as a result of the support from IMS People through their ‘People Possible Foundation’ CSR programme.
If you would like to support our work for initiatives such as these please make a donation so we can continue to change the lives of widows for the better.
