Activity Report 2022-23

During the year the Loomba Foundation continued educating children of poor widows, empowering impoverished widows and advocating for the welfare of widows and single mothers. The highlight of the year was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Foundation as the charity was initially established in 1997 in the UK.

5th April 2022: Group Marriage of 30 Women including Widows.

A group marriage function of 30 couples of underprivileged women including widows was organized by Guild for Service in Delhi.  Representatives of the Loomba Foundation attended it. A donation cheque of Rs.30,000/- from the Loomba Foundation was also given on the occasion.

12th April 2022: Visit to Shri Jagiri Lal Loomba Memorial Senior Secondary School. Dhilwan, Punjab.

The representatives of the Loomba Foundation visited Shri Jagiri Lal Loomba Memorial Senior Secondary School, Dhilwan, Punjab on 12th April, 2022 and discussed with School Management Committee (SMC), Dhilwan School for reviewing the requirements of School and the assessment of estimated expenditure of Rs.5,70,570/-.

23rd June 2022: UK – The Loomba Foundation celebrated its 25th Anniversary on International Widows Day

The Loomba Foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary on International Widows Day. Over 300 guests including senior politicians and leading business leaders gathered to celebrate the milestone occasion at the Banqueting House in London’s Whitehall in London.

The Loomba Foundation in partnership with Barnardo’s, the UK’s largest children’s charity, raised funds for a humanitarian initiative to support 1000 families, including mothers and their children, fleeing war-torn Ukraine to settle in the UK. The evening culminated with the successful fundraising of more than £60,000.

India – The Loomba Foundation celebrated its 25th Anniversary on International Widows Day in Dhilwan, Punjab.

The Loomba Foundation held an event at Shri Jagiri Lal Loomba Memorial Govt. Senior Secondary School, Dhilwan in Punjab on Thursday, 23rd June, 2022, to mark the UN International Widows Day 2022 and the Foundation’s 25th Anniversary.

On this occasion, The Loomba Foundation distributed scholarship cheques to the children of poor widows to support their education in this school. The cheques were also distributed to the meritorious students for their outstanding performance in studies during last academic session. School students performed– “Gidda and Bhangra” – A Punjabi folk dance. 

 

International Widows Day in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

International Widows Day event was also observed in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Over 30 guests including Loomba Foundation’s team coordinators, beneficiary widows, attended the event.

 

21st September 2022: DAV College in Jalandhar Invites Lord Raj Loomba CBE

Principal Professor Salil Kumar Uppal invited Lord Raj Loomba CBE to visit DAV College in Jalandhar as a distinguished Alumni, as he had studied at the college from 1958 to 1960.

During his visit, Lord Raj Loomba inaugurated the newly built English Language Lab at the college. In his address to the students, he emphasized that education is the key to one’s success.

 

16th November 2022 : Distribution of 1000 Blankets

The Loomba Foundation distributed 1000 blankets to poor widows – 250 blankets in each of the four states viz Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan and J&K.  These were well appreciated by the recipients during the cold winter this year.

1st January 2023: Prosperity for Widows Project for Empowering 5000 Widows in UP

The Loomba Foundation, in partnership with the US India Friendship Alliance, a charitable arm of the US India Strategic Partnership Forum, started a ‘Prosperity for Widows Project’ for empowering 5000 widows in Uttar Pradesh on January 1st during the year. This project was announced at the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi on 19th October 2022, in the presence of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Mrs. Smriti Irani and Shri Rajeev Chandrashekhar, Hon’ble Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

The Loomba Foundation and the US India Friendship Alliance signed an MOU for this project at the House of Lords in London on 9th December 2022. Lok Bharti Skilling Solutions PVT. Ltd. will impart skills training in hospitality, tourism, tailoring, beauty & healthcare and food processing in five locations namely Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Amethi and Chandauli. It will be completed in two years 2023-24 at a cost of US$ 400,000.
